Tunes for Tuesday - YOHIO Present and Past

YOHIO photoshoot

I was going to use this for a Music Monday, but given that yesterday's post was written by the illustrious Vadim and the end of another term as secretary comes to an end, I don't think there will be many opportunities left to write up such posts for Anime@UTS, so I thought I might as well post it. A win for you? A Tunes for Tuesday today for you all~!

Sometime in the past week or two I came across a site randomly through my once-in-a-while wades through links people have posted on Facebook. I don't recall the reason exactly, but I eventually came across this article on a Swedish Visual Kei singer, who looks like a girl, but is actually a guy. Actually, that's not nice, he just dresses up as a girl — this isn't Bieber we're talking about, after all.

Now this situation is not unfamiliar or strange to anyone who is familiar with Korean boy bands or Thai girls (are they girls at all?) or even Japanese boy bands, for that matter, but certainly it would be a big thing in Sweden.

Interestingly, YOHIO started learning Japanese by himself at the age of 10 and is now fluent — I can't even say the same and I've been doing Japanese on and off (mostly off) for the past 8 years. Anyway, YOHIO hit it big in the Japanese market, not only being a foreigner who is fluent in Japanese but also being one who can really get to the core of what they love. He may have been bullied before when he was little, but here he is now, a star.

Check out one of his MVs below:

I sometimes listen to Visual Kei music, but much more than liking their music I'm more a fan of their visual style, even though I know I would never dress like that — hey, well one can entertain fantasies. I don't know all that many VK bands (like the GazettE), but I must say the genre overall is intriguing to me.

YOHIO's music style has been said to be more accessible than the VK group in which he was with originally, Seremedy, although VK itself is a pretty broad range. For some reason I do like Seremedy's music too though... so much for not liking screamo music? You can see YOHIO dressed in the same way here.

Well, I have diverse taste? (That is to say I like almost anything that doesn't give me a headache.)
