千千闕歌

My parents were listening to a compilation of Chinese songs yesterday and this is one of the songs which came up. It's not particularly a favourite of mine, but I'm quite familiar with it after hearing it so much.

千千闕歌 was originally a Japanese song though I didn't know about that until recently. There are apparently two Cantonese covers: 千千闕歌 (Thousands of Songs) by Priscilla Chan and 夕陽之歌 (Song of Sunset) by Anita Mui, there's also a Mandarin cover. The one above was originally by Priscilla Chan, but was covered by many others including Leslie Cheung above.

I thought I preferred the Cantonese version not so true to the source more, but after listening to the original song sung by Tegomasu, I'm actually also quote fond of the Japanese version. I suppose it would be hypocritical in a way to complain about dubs when I'm quite happy to watch Chinese dubbed things, but not English dubbed. The ones I have listened to in the past are quite terrible though. As always the sub dub debates will rage.

Fraction of the Japanese original, 夕焼けの歌 (Song of Evening Glow) by Tegomasu:
