The Translator's Dilemma

My dog ate it

In the bonus material of the Sekaiichi Hatsukoi anime, the frame above appeared. At the time (two years ago) I thought it was hilarious that the seiyuu had used 'the dog ate my homework' excuse for not having his script.

It isn't until now that I have rediscovered the screenshot I took, however, that I realise the word for 'dog' never even features in the text provided onscreen for emphasis. In fact the word used is ヤギ (yagi/goat), which I know so well from Cuticle Tantei Inaba, and thus 'my goat ate it'.

This is in fact more funny that the translation provided with the video — particularly given I think most people have a good idea of what goats like eating (namely, pretty much anything). I wonder whether it's better to provide a translation that English-speaking people will identify with more, or to be true to the original even if people could potentially become confused?
