The Beginning Acoustic

This is possibly the most beautiful version of ONE OK ROCK’s ‘The Beginning’ I’ve ever heard. When I showed it to Ruben yesterday, his opinion was that it sounded quite generic, but personally I think this version of the popular theme from the first Rurouni Kenshin Live Action movie is particularly soulful and poignant. The effect is even more emphasised when you throw in a pair of fairly good quality speakers that really accentuate some of the bass.

Have I always loved this song since I heard it? No. I have to admit that the first time I heard this as the credits for the movie started up in the darkness of the movie theatre, I was extremely surprised that it was in English, but it was not particularly striking to me until I’d heard the whole song. As an accompaniment to Rurouni Kenshin and the emotional journey it is, I feel that it is extremely meaningful.

But all the same, it is difficult to separate the Kenshins of the manga and the movies still within my mind, although they are subtly different, and other people’s interpretations of him will be even more so. Watsuki-sensei, your children have all grown up great.
