Music Monday - Someone's Cantonese Childhood

Following on this stream of YouTube videos, I was surprised to see that there was a Cantonese version Opening for Cardcaptor Sakura while listening to a video of Cantonese childrens’ songs the other day.

Given that I haven’t really heard any of the Cardcaptors opening themes, this song doesn’t offend me in the slightest. I did immediately notice this song because of its style though, which I can only say reminds me of the Flights of Fantasy song from Hong Kong Disneyland’s Afternoon Parade (which we were lucky enough to catch), which I would have happily paid top dollar to purchase if I could have.

Perhaps it’s a mix of the pace, and the fact that its tune doesn’t sound like anything I’ve heard of before. It’s still something that is difficult for me to put into words. I love songs that make me feel so inspired and uplifted for really no reason at all. Flights of Fantasy and this Cantonese CCS opening have the power to cheer me up when I am down.

If I knew the words to these songs, I would definitely sing along — it feels so inadequate to only sing along to the English part.

Unlike English dubs, I would happily search for and listen to Cantonese dubs of shows anyday. It is interesting to find this content at all though, given the widespread nature of Mandarin. I’ll take what I can get.
