Welcome to the Ministry of Silly Walks

I had the pleasure of meeting up with a group of good friends from Anime@UTS yesterday for a non-official Monty Python marathon. Despite getting there somewhat late, it was still a relatively enjoyable experience despite the fact I got plunged into watching immediately without understanding what was going on – but then again I don't suppose there was an awful lot I had to understand. Maybe I was just thinking too deeply when I didn't need to.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
He's had worse before.

I admit quite freely (though not many people are usually listening), that I knew practically nothing about Monty Python, and the more I thought about it, the more I avoided it – not knowing about something is usually something that bothers me a lot, but causes me to shy away from it rather than doing something constructive about it. Especially the case when this cripples my ability to join conversations because I have nothing to contribute. Saying that it will be fixed in the future doesn't assuage this anxiety, especially when in the process everyone else in the room knows what is coming or is reliving their nostalgia and this is all completely new to you.

Nonetheless, eventually I got into the flow of it and am interested in watching more of it in bulk, once it is available to me. I would also be interested in rewatching whatever was shown yesterday though, simply because I probably missed a great deal. Kiri hurt herself in her confusion! She lost 32 HP! (Unprecedented Pokemon references emerge.)

In other news, I wonder if these friends of mine could have possibly chosen anything with greater amounts of sexual innuendo.. Well, I'm not sure you can even call it innuendo at that point, they're being completely open about it. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I'm sure it's entirely educational. Amusing hijinks ensue.

My dad surprised me when I got home by telling me that Monty Python had frequently been on the ABC (he also added that it was a terrible show, but regardless...), yet somehow I have no recollection of this and have never seen it. Or perhaps I had, but simply didn't know what I was watching. All the same, I wish I'd had access to this earlier.
