JStars VS+

I heard about this game from my US friends by scrolling through their previous conversations while I wasn’t present in their thread - it’s lucky that you can do this on Skype, it certainly wouldn’t have been possible in an IRC like the old-old days. I was intrigued that it celebrated the 45th Anniversary of Shonen Jump, and a little amused that Sawada Tsunayoshi (with Reborn) would be one of the playable characters in it.

What I didn’t realise at the time though, was that Himura Kenshin of Rurouni Kenshin would also be a playable character (along with Shishio Makoto). I still have a healthy amount of interest in the Reborn fandom so looked up the game on their website to get a feel for what it was like.

However, the minute I spotted the video where Kenshin and Tsuna fight, I knew this was it. I had to snap up the game and called an EB Games to immediately snap up a PlayStation 3 and a copy of JStarsVS+ … that’s some strong motivation, but I don’t just sit around and stand for Kenshin getting slapped around by a useless Decimo.

Another good reason for buying JStarsVS+ though, was that it also features the SKET Dance characters in their trio, Allen Walker from D.Gray-man, Kuroko from Kuroko no Basuke and Chitoge from Nisekoi.

But let’s be real, the real reason I got this was for Kenshin.

Now I hear that the storyline and overall gameplay for this game is pretty simple, but as a character tribute, it’s very true to the abilities of the character, though formulaic.. if that’s a word. Each character has one strong attack, with a few other attacks, so you don’t get the true intricacies of the abilities of each character, but it’s still fun to watch your favourite characters deke it out.

I didn’t expect to have to sit around and unlock characters as the storyline progressed because I wanted to just jump in and play with my beloved characters, but Naruto’s an interesting character to play too. RASENGAN I suppose we shall see how it goes.
