In the News: Educational Reform

UTS escalator

For the sake of completeness, in the news this week further on the 'educational reform' type stuff which will see changes to the budget and saw changes to university funding:

  • Gonski reforms are rejected by premiers of all states and deal not signed. There were some concerns will allocation of funding and divide between funds for public and private schools.
  • Julia Gillard decides to appeal to parents and teaching staff in order to place more pressure on premiers to sign the deal.
  • Abbot announces that the Gonski reforms are unnecessary, but will be maintaining the cuts to university funding, using cheaper changes in order to improve our current schooling system. You can read Ruben's post about it.

As always the choice is between the lesser evil when dealing with Labour and Liberal.
