講金不講心

講金不講心

My parents mentioned something that sounded suspiciously like a quote this past weekend as they discussed a lack of loyalty of Eastwood-ians to Chinese BBQ places in Eastwood.

Of late, more and more Chinese BBQs have been popping up around Eastwood, in some cases confusingly they have popped up directly next to each other such that the competition is based solely on who gives the greatest discount on their usual prices. ‘Usual’, I say.

My parents were lamenting that if one BBQ shop added another 5% discount on top, immediately all patrons would flock there instead of forming loyalties. My father on the other hand, stayed with the one he liked and that he had managed o form a rapport with; called 啊一, or BBQ ONE.

“Of course,” said my mother. “講金不講心!” It’s about the money, not about the heart/loyalty! (Unlike Jeremiah up there in the header.)

In a way I feel the same about work. It’s about the money that I come here, not about enjoyment or dedication or any sense of loyalty; it’s just because I signed a NDA. Just goes to show I need to change my job sooner than later.
